Representing Haryana, Kanupriya’s performance stood out as she battled through a strong field of competitors to secure the gold medal. She defeated Punjab’s Jasmine Kaur 15-5 in finals to secure the gold in the Women’s Foil category.
Her competitor in the final, Jasmine Kaur, is also training at Vijayi Bharat Foundation and bagged Silver at the Junior Nationals post her defeat.
The six-day national-level championship saw over 500 competitors from across 23 states participate in both the Boys’ and Girls’ events.
Following her brilliant performance at the 33rd Junior Nationals, Kanupriya also achieved the rare feat of becoming a gold medallist in both the Senior and Junior categories in the same year. Previously, she had won Gold in the Foil event at the 36th National Fencing Championship, New Delhi.
Her remarkable success at the recent championship stands as a testament to her unwavering dedication and rigorous training at Vijayi Bharat Foundation’s High-Performance Centre.
Other VBF athletes who secured medals in individual competitions of the 33rd National Junior Fencing Championship include Jasmine Kaur Silver (Foil), Prachi Bronze (Foil), Nelcyrose Saikhom (Epée), Sharvari Ghosewade (Sabre) and Vandita Barad (Sabre) respectively.
Meanwhile, in the team events, Nelcyrose Saikhom of Manipur clinched gold, Nitika of Haryana secured silver, and Bhakti Patel from Gujarat secured a bronze medal.
Following their success at the 36th National Fencing Championship, VBF fencers carried their strong form into the junior nationals, guided by the Vijayi Bharat Foundation’s High Performance Centre team. The fencers displayed remarkable skill, composure, and spirit – earning top honours and showcasing the strength of VBF’s training.
